OLD NEWS
Richmond Christian Issue
If you are working a match at Richmond Christian, please have the teams that are warming up hit AWAY FROM the scorer's table. We've had an official break her glasses by being hit by a ball in the small gym.
Schools without Teams
Some schools are having difficulty fielding teams. As of today, George Wythe will not start playing until 9/29. Thomas Jefferson is not playing until 9/15 at the earliest. Godwin is still trying to field a JV Boys' team, as is Manchester.
VHSL State Event Passes
If you would like a VHSL state event pass for 2011-12, please email the commissioner by Sunday, July 31st. The order will go to the VHSL on Monday, August 1st. Passes are $25.00 each and are only good for STATE level playoff games in any sport. Please provide the full name for each card ordered.
VHSL Rule Books
If you have still not received your 2011 volleyball rule book, you can make arrangements with the commissioner to stop by his office during regular business hours.
VHSL Clinic and NFHS Test
The 'free' period for viewing the VHSL online clinic presentation and also for taking the NFHS 50-question exam is Monday, July 25th thru Saturday, August 20th. In order to be eligible to work for CVVOA, you must complete both of these requirements.
New Schools for 2011
The remaining three schools in the Bay Rivers District (Jamestown, Lafayette, and Warhill) will be using CVVOA for all their home matches this year. That means we now have all 10 schools in that district. We also get Goochland back as they return to the James River District.
CVVOA Promotions
Congratulations to the following members who were voted into Full (Active) status at the annual meeting on November 21st: Joe Clark, James Daniel, Eleanor Dozier, Gregory Gray, Richard Hesse, Mike Jezierski, Tim Kallam, Jose Sanchez, Alan Taylor, and Joe Yates.
The following Trainees were moved up to Provisional status: Daniel Caffrey, Kevin Causey, Dave Gilman, Mike Hicks, Glenn Riley, Cleo Thornhill, Ed Weldon.
VHSL State Playoffs
For the 18th consecutive year, CVVOA will be represented at the VHSL State Playoffs. As of today, CVVOA will be working one of the Boys' AAA Semi-Final matches on Thursday and will have the R1 in the Boys' AAA Final on Saturday.
There is still a strong possibility that CVVOA will be getting at least one state quarter-final playoff match as well. Those assignments will come out of Charlottesville on Sunday.
New Position of R3
The CVVOA Executive Committee has adopted a plan by which first and second-year members can get more assignments and at the same time receive immediate feedback from an association rater. In selected JV matches, the rater will be assigned the R3 position on the schedule. His/her duties are to sit in the stands and observe the JV match, focusing primarily on the R2 (1st/2nd-year) and reporting comments about his/her performance. Between the JV and Varsity match, the R3 will review some of the situations observed and provide feedback to the R2. It is the JV R2's responsibility to watch at least two sets of the varsity match to obtain an insight as to how matches should be called. More about this will be explained at the general membership meeting on September 12th.
