Old Stuff

September 15, 2010

In case you missed the CVVOA general membership meeting last Sunday, the following items were discussed:

1. If a visiting team arrives late to a match site, you must allow them sufficient time to warm up... 20 minutes minimum.

2. R3 responsibilities - The R3 (rater) is to observe and record the mechanics and judgments of the R2 (rookie/provisional) in the JV match. The R3 is not to interrupt the flow of the match for any reason. Discuss points observed with the R2 after the match, or if necessary, between sets if there are serious issues. The R2 (rookie/provisional) is expected to stay and watch at LEAST two sets of the varsity match and preferably the entire match.

3. Players leaving a set because of illness can return to play in the same set or match as long as they have not been rendered unconscious or appear to have a concussion AND have not been substituted for with an abnormal substitution.

4. A notice about 'artificial' noisemakers had been sent to all ADs. Remember to have the school's administration enforce the artificial noisemaker rule. Rolled up programs are considered artificial noisemakers. Problem reported at New Kent.

5. Do not put down tape to mark a court (especially at J.R. Tucker). If centerlines must be made continuous or the net needs adjusting, have the school personnel do it. Never modify the court of net yourself (except for adjusting the net antennae).

6. Hermitage HS will not field a Boys' JV team this year. Varsity matches 'might' be moved to 6:00. Pay attention to emails from The Arbiter.

7. VHSL Volleyball ID cards were handed out. Please pick up yours at the October 3rd meeting if you didn't get it on Sunday.

8. VHSL State Passes are on sale again for $25 each. Let me know if you want one or two. I need to know the names that will be typed on the cards, as they are non-transferable.

Keep reading emails at least daily.

Emails – For timely responses to your weekday emails, send to my work address of: bfrye@mpminc.com

Game Reports –Enter match score and who drove (especially on the JV match) for those schools that pay travel. To enter a match report, click on ‘Schedule’. Click the ‘Show All’ box if game was yesterday or before. Click on the red ‘R’ under ‘Notes’. Fill in match score, who drove (for out of town matches), indicate if either official was ‘Late’ or a ‘No Show’, and then make sure to click on ‘Save’.

Evaluations – Need them for everyone. Give only pertinent information. Comments especially useful. To enter an evaluation, click on the game ‘number’ to open up the slots. Then click on the red ‘A+’ to the right of your partner’s name. Select either Referee or Umpire form depending on what position your partner worked. Hit ‘Go’ and fill out every score. Don’t forget to click on ‘Submit’ when you’re done.

Match Notes – Used to convey information re: the match (2/3, 3/5, time change, etc.). If matches are played under different formats than usual (3/3, 3/5 vs 2/3, etc.), then report it on the match report.

Sub-Varsity Matches – Getting reports that the R1s are not calling it tight enough. Use the experienced R2s’ informational signals to help you call to the correct level.

Calling Partners – Still not doing a good job. Missed a JV/Varsity DH this past week due to non-communication.

Equipment Checks – Always check the net height but never adjust it yourself. Check ball pressure and adjust if necessary. Check standards for proper padding.

Keep working hard and please accept all assignments.
