OFFICIAL SOFTBALL UMPIRE UNIFORM
The Official Softball Umpire Uniform (which must be worn at all scholastic games) is as follows:
1. Cap - Fitted, Clean, and Blocked Solid Navy Blue with the ‘OD’ logo.
Long Bill (8-stitch) caps are recommended for the Bases only, but may be worn on the Plate.
Combo (6-stitch) caps are always appropriate for either the Plate or the Bases.
Short Bill (4-stitch) caps are appropriate for the Plate only.
The Beanie (2-stitch) caps are not allowed for any Umpire.
2. Shirt - Clean, Powder Blue Cliff Keen Pullover with the VHSL patch sewn on the left breast pocket. The American Flag patch can optionally be sewn or ironed on the back, centered one inch below the collar. All MROS umpires are required to have an assigned 4-inch number permanently attached to the right sleeve. The Commissioner will assign the number.
The Scarlet-colored Cliff Keen Pullover with the VHSL patch and number on the right sleeve is an OPTIONAL alternative shirt. The rule is: both umpires MUST be dressed in the same shirt. This shirt is not to be worn in any post-season playoff game beyond the District level. Both the Powder Blue and Scarlet shirts may be purchased at Disco Sports near Regency Mall.
3. Undershirt - If visible, must be solid white. Crew or V-neck collar allowed. Any undershirt that has visible printing or logos that ‘bleed’ through the blue pullover is not allowed.
If the optional Scarlet-colored Cliff Keen shirt is worn, then the undershirt, if visible, must be Navy Blue.
4. Pants - Clean, Pressed, Heather Gray with belt loops.
5. Belt - Solid Black Leather with a plain, unadorned Silver, Gold, or Brass Buckle.
6. Ball Bag - Navy Blue or Heather Gray with no logo.
7. Socks - Solid Black.
8. Shoes - Solid Black - Clean and Polished.
Note: If the optional Mizuno base shoe is worn, then there can be some white on the shoe.
9. Jacket – Navy Blue brand pullover with Red/Blue shoulder stripes. No patches are to be on the jacket. One umpire may wear a jacket while the other just wears the shirt.
10.
Turtleneck – Navy Blue, regular or mock. Must be worn under the
jacket (and uniform shirt if worn).
Note: Protective Equipment - All Plate Umpires must wear a Face Mask (with an extended or attached Throat Protector) and Shin Guards. In addition, Male Umpires must wear a Protective Cup and Female Umpires must wear a Chest Protector. It is strongly recommended that all Male Umpires wear a Chest Protector!
