Fly Ball Tag-up Responsibilities

 

Balls to Right Field

 

Runner on 1st:  A has the runner.

 

Runner on 2nd:  E has the runner.

 

Runner on 3rd: E has the runner.

 

Runners on 1st & 2nd:  B has 1st, E has 2nd.

 

Runners 1st & 3rd:  B has 1st & E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 2nd & 3rd:  B has 2nd & E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 1st, 2nd & 3rd:  B has 1st and E has 2nd & 3rd.

 

Balls to Center Field

Runner on 1st:  A has runner.

 

Runner on 2nd:  E has runner while B watches the BR touch 1st.

 

Runner on 3rd:  E has runner.

 

Runners on 1st & 2nd:  B has 1st and E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 1st & 3rd:  B has 1st and E has 3rd.


Runners on 2nd & 3rd:  B has 2nd and E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 1st, 2nd, & 3rd: B has 1st and E has 2nd and 3rd.

 

Balls to Left Field

Runner on 1st:  A has runner.

 

Runner on 2nd:  B has runner.

 

Runner on 3rd:  E has runner.

 

Runners on 1st & 2nd:  B has 1st and 2nd.

B must back up towards right field to open peripheral vision to see both.

E can help if not going out for the catch.

 

Runners on 1st & 3rd:  B has 1st and E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 2nd & 3rd:  B has 2nd and E has 3rd.

 

Runners on 1st, 2nd, & 3rd:  B has 1st & 2nd, and E has 3rd.

 

 

In all situations:

(1)    If an umpire goes out to cover a fly ball, the plate umpire will cover the vacated base(s).

(2)    With bases loaded, no one goes out unless the game is on the line (game-winning play).
