Metro Richmond Officiating Service

One of the two divisions within the Old Dominion Officials Association is the Metro Richmond Officiating Service. Initially established in 1985 and restructured in 1997, our division umpires fast-pitch softball for middle and high schools in the city of Richmond, the counties of Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Essex, Goochland, King William, King & Queen, Powhatan, Brunswick, Cumberland, Nottoway, as well as other outlying areas. MROS provides ongoing training programs, conducts rules reviews, and teaches modern fast-pitch softball mechanics. We continually evaluate the performance of all our officials as part of our professional development and playoff selection process. It is our policy to help our officials to improve their skills so that each umpire will attain his/her maximum level of competence. Our association has long been recognized by the Virginia High School League as one of, if not the finest umpiring organizations within the state, as evidenced by our selection to officiate the AAA State Championship games in 2000, 2003, 2007, 2009, & 2010 and AAA State Semifinal or Quarterfinal games the past eight years. We have had thirteen  individual umpires selected to work the AA and AAA semi-finals and finals over the past five seasons. Over 25% of our staff have State Playoff experience. Nearly 90% of our active members have earned post-season assignments. As we continue to grow, our ultimate goal is to provide to all our schools the finest group of trained, knowledgeable, dedicated, and professional fast-pitch softball umpires in the state of Virginia.

MROS and her sister association, the Central Virginia Volleyball Officials Association, use The Arbiter online scheduling system for all assignments and billing. Athletic Directors are encouraged to log onto the system to verify their schools' home and away schedules.
