MROS Meeting Minutes
04/02/06
Chickahominy Middle School
President Jerry Stone called the meeting to order at 6:30
p.m.
The attendance was taken by sign in sheet.
The minutes were approved as presented on the website.
The Treasurer’s report was presented by Bruce Frye and
approved as presented.
Bill Harrison covered the Mentor Program. He reminded everyone to make their proper
phone contacts prior to the games. He
stressed the importance of post game meetings to go over any happenings during
the game. Evaluations of all trainees
and provisional members need to be sent to Bill by May 15th. Jerry asked the trainees to remind their Big
Brothers and Mentors to get their evaluations in so that a decision on
advancement can be made.
Scott Carter reported on the banquet. The membership was given a choice between
Joe’s Inn in Mechanicsville or Nick’s Roman Terrace on Broad Street. The overwhelming choice was Joe’s Inn. The banquet will be held on Monday, June 26th
at 6:30 p.m. Plans are for the member
and a guest to be covered. The member
will pay for any alcoholic drinks. Joe
Yates will send invitations out this week.
Bill handled the interpreter’s role this evening. He went over the Flex rule. A handout was given to the membership. He explained about the potential force out
at third base on a hit to left field with runners on first and second. With the base umpire in the C position, the
plate umpire will handle the potential force at third.
Bruce gave the Commissioner’s report. He reminded everyone that the Arbiter is
gospel when there is a discrepancy with the website. Also, please keep your blocks on the calendar up to date to avoid
“turn backs”. He reminded everyone
again to fill out game reports (plate umpire).
He also pointed out that, after viewing several games, the D slot was
being misused, plate umpires are not in the slot as they should be, and that he
has seen a lack of hustle from umpires.
We then went out to the field and worked the D position. The meeting ended soon after.
Respectfully submitted by Joe Yates.
